Cursor

Cursor Agent inside Sentinel, on the shared ACP engine.

Sentinel can run a thread on the Cursor Agent CLI.

It talks to Cursor through Cursor Agent's own ACP server, on the same ACP engine that carries Grok Build, Antigravity, and registry agents. Cursor keeps its interactive approvals, so edits, deletes, shell commands, MCP tools, and web requests that Cursor's own allowlist did not approve come back to Sentinel as approvals.

Setup

WhatDetails
Installcurl -fsS https://cursor.com/install | bash (macOS and Linux)
Binaryagent, or cursor-agent
UpdateThe CLI's own update command, for an install made by the script
RecommendedCursor Agent 2026.5.9 or newer
Home variableNone; instances share the CLI's sign-in and settings
Binary overrideThe instance's binary path, or SENTINEL_CURSOR_PATH for the default instance

Sign-in

  • Sign in with Cursor runs agent login in a terminal inside the Cursor card; approve the sign-in in your browser.
  • Use an API key stores the key encrypted on the instance as CURSOR_API_KEY.

Because Cursor has no home variable, an API key is the way to give a second instance a different account.

Running a thread

  • Permission modes: Default, Accept edits, and Full.
  • Plan mode: Cursor's own plan mode.
  • Questions Cursor asks become question cards in the thread.
  • Models: Cursor lists its models with their parameters, such as reasoning level, and the composer offers them.
  • Images can be attached to a prompt.
  • MCP servers from Settings are passed to Cursor.
  • Slash commands Cursor reports appear in the composer's slash menu.

Usage limits

Cursor's plan usage comes from the Cursor dashboard. Sentinel finds the login in CURSOR_AUTH_TOKEN or the CLI's auth file.

On macOS, the CLI can keep its login in the Keychain instead. Sentinel reads it only when you ask from the Cursor card, and macOS asks you to allow it first. The token stays in memory and is only sent to Cursor.

Skills

Skills installed for Cursor go into ~/.cursor/skills, or .cursor/skills in the workspace.

What Sentinel keeps for a Cursor thread

The shared ACP thread state: the session ID, working directory, model, mode, reasoning effort, the agent's config values, and the last message the session holds. When a thread's history no longer matches the session (after an edit or a checkpoint restore), the next turn starts a new session.
